When Leonardo Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa, he used brushstrokes so tiny that you need a microscope to see them. This week we’ve been applying some perfect strokes of our own to the app - too little to see individually, but helping to paint something grander. They’ll hang us in the Louvre someday too!

If big exciting product launches are our marathon, think of this release as a 5k training run. Improvements made, great strides taken, bugs squished – but mainly a behind-the-scenes slog that no-one really needs to hear about.

Big, exciting product launches are like the lead singer in a band. This week’s update is more like the humble drummer. Never get the credit do they? But where would that frontman be without someone keeping the beat. No visual changes this week, but plenty of behind the scenes improvements to keep everything in tune.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. For a start, togas and manual labour make for awkward bedfellows, but also, Romans knew Colosseums are the result of lots of small daily improvements (yes, we just compared Starling to a wonder of the world). Not many visual changes this week – but plenty of construction work going on behind the scenes.

This week, our app updates are wearing an invisibility cloak. Which, in other words, means they’re too minor and functional to tell you about. But don’t worry, they’re there, hiding in the shadows. Spooky.

We’re gradually rolling out an entirely new look for our foreign payment flow this week. When you send money abroad in a foreign currency, you’ll now get a full breakdown of how we've worked out the exchange rate, any fees, and some more information on how we deliver the payment. We’ve added a confirmation screen too, to give you absolute clarity before you hit that shiny send button. We hope you like it.
This week we're smoothing out some bugs in Spaces. There's plenty going on in the background too, including work on improving the payee flow, and payee details.
Not too many many visual changes to tell you about this week. Instead, we've squashed a bug relating to switching between accounts, and have made some adjustments to the payment flow. Plenty of exciting things going on behind the scenes too, as ever!
Mostly behind-the-scenes tweaks this week, but there have been a couple of visual changes. You can now toggle between your account details for UK and international payments, and you might notice your balance on the home screen is quicker to load.
No major changes this week, but we've streamlined the Account Management menu and have made it easier to upload your business documents during onboarding. We've also given the customer feedback screen a new design. Like most weeks, bugs being squashed in the background too.
New to Saving Spaces: meet Top Ups! Use automatic transfers to top your Saving Spaces up to a chosen total each time, instead of transferring a fixed amount. However much you have in your Space, with Top Ups we’ll always add just enough to take it to your chosen level, on your chosen transfer day. It's perfect for your bills space! Find it by tapping ‘Manage Space’, then 'Automatic Transfer'.
Great news - it's now even easier to open another Starling account. The 'Open new account' option has been moved to the initial account switching screen for increased discoverability, and we've improved the UI here too. Elsewhere, we've changed the card expiry date format to MM/YY, and revamped the designs for the Help screens. As ever, there's plenty more going on behind the scenes too.

Happy new year from the Starling Dev team! Our new year's resolution? With every update, we'll try to use these release notes to explain what's really changing in the app - even if the changes aren't visual, or we're mainly squashing bugs. If we do need to use generic notes, we'll try to include at least a sentence on developments. This week: there's new designs for the main card screen, the pin reminder screen, and there's some tweaks to the 'Replace Card' screen.
Forget carols and decorating the tree. The moment that really signals the arrival of Christmas? The Starling snow globe, of course! Head to your home screen, give your phone a (gentle) shake and watch the snow fall! Merry Christmas.
We’re making a list, we’re checking it twice. Then we’re making some updates that are gonna be nice! Just a couple of visual changes this week, including a new menu icon for the ‘Custom app icons’ button (very Inception).
Kids in Canada? Mates down under? With this week’s update, you can now send Canadian and Australian dollars straight from the Payments section of your app. Also this week: we’ll now highlight the results in keyword searches, and there’s a new look for customer support chats.
We’re continuing to roll out an update to the Card section of the app this week. We’ve moved your card details behind a new option, so they’re only visible if you’re specifically looking for them. You can now copy and paste your details too - no need to flick back and forth from the app! Also this week: some visual changes in Spaces and Marketplace, and some additional helpful info about our new feature, Bills Manager.

Remember, remember the 5th November… and the 12th, and the 17th. When your bills go out at different times of the month, keeping track of them can be tricky. But our new feature, Bills Manager, requires less plotting. Pay your bills from a Saving Space instead of your main balance, and get a clear picture of how much money you have for day-to-day spending.

If big exciting product launches are our marathon, think of this release as a 5k training run. Improvements made, great strides taken, bugs squished – but mainly a behind-the-scenes slog that no-one really needs to hear about.
Frodo gets all the credit. But who carried him up that mountain, hey? Sam, that’s who. This week’s app update is our very own Sam. Lots of heavy-lifting and essential improvements behind the scenes. None of the glory. But we love you, Sam.

Happy Pride month! With this update, you'll be able to change your app icon to a custom design in proudly rainbow hues. We've also squashed a few bugs – but we'll spare you the gory details.

Another week, another release note – only this time, we’ve gone big on statements. Our statement screens have been revamped, and we’ve introduced fee statements too.
